Arctic Grizzly Bear from Nome.
« on: May 19, 2009, 10:25:28 PM »
 Hey again.
was looking at the Grizzly track thread and put a couple pics of the feet of this bear up. Thought why not show the rest of him.
Killed Wednesday May 13 2009 on a solo hunt. 31 miles northeast of Nome. Left from the back door on the snowmachine at 5:15 am and told my wife I'd be back no later than 3:00 because I had to work at 4:00. Got home at 2:55 and made it to work on time and was basically worthless. Used to be it took a couple days to get sore but now it's almost immediately.
Saw five bears and a wolverine. This being number 5.

The bear was a male that had been up in the fog and cliffs and made the fatal mistake of coming down out of the fog and laying down to take a nap in the sun. Another bear most likely a female during a previous breeding season had gotten hold of him and bit the end of his nose off. Most peculiar.
Rifle was my .300 Weatherby Mark V. 200 grain Nosler partitions loaded by my brother. Two shots from about 80 yards, he never knew I was there till I started shooting.

Measurements are front foot, 7 1/2 inches across the pad. Back foot 13 1/2 inches long.
Neck girth 29 inches without the hide. Hide without the skull 96" long nose to tail. 108" across from paw to paw. Square is 8' 5''. Weight I have no idea. It was a pain to move him around by myself trust me. A guess would be 500 at least. By the fall he'd put another 150-200 on. It was heavy I know that.
Green skull measurement at sealing by ADF&G was 25 11/16.

Dandy bear, congrats!
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.
You are never to old to learn something stupid.

Nice bear. Great job by yourself. That's a lot of work, but I'm sure it was worth it. AWESOME.

 :yeah:
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

What do you do with the bear? I noticed you just skinned him. I've been told they are not worth eating. Once you shot it did the bear run?
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.
