Multi season tag success

I  drew the multi season tag this year and given my dismal record elk hunting I figured I'd eat this one too and it would be especially bitter. It started with Archery season and I was into elk every day. Bulls bugling, thrashing trees, chasing the ladies, it was awesome but I couldn't get closer than 100 yards. In fact on both of my cams a bull (different ones) showed up on my camera only a couple hours after I checked them, I was so deflated but It was still tons of fun. I was super jacked for the muzzy hunt. I got the bighorn sighted in perfect and I was ready. I was going to take the whole week off and not miss one single day. I showed up this a.m. and the wind was good, not perfect but good. I sat on the trail they use when they come up from the river and I waited. I was reading my favorite series (the first mountain man) and Preacher just got ambushed, he took out 3 of the attackers and it was getting GOOD! I look up and 150 yards out is a cow and bull heading right to me. Another cow, another, a calf. Holy crap a whole herd! No man, that's too many noses and eyeballs. He was trying to corral the girls but they were giving him fits. Then about 15 more cows and calves. The 1st 5 ran right in front of me, 20-30 yards. I had no shot. Then in single file the whole damn herd walked right by me. All 30 to 50 yards away and they never knew I was there. The bull in the rear stopped right in front of me and that was it. I let the bighorn go and the Barnes did the trick. It didn't act hit though. It trotted off about 50 yards and just stood there. What the hell? did I miss? There's just no way I could have missed, I knew this but why wasn't he even acting hit? I quickly tried to reload but I was shaking so badly I dumped half of the powder on the ground, I dumped that out and then calmed down and reloaded but then the cows took off and he did too. In another 50ish yards the head dropped and he started weaving and down he went. I could not believe what had just happened. Then the work began, I was alone and it took 5 1/2 hours and 3 trips with the cart with a total of 6 1/2 miles walked, what a day!  This is only my second elk and I am beyond stoked. Since I was alone this is the best I could do with the pics but I did capture him on trailcam which I discovered after I got home!

We tried working on a bull all morning. Couldnt get him to come play. He kept walking around in circles raking on trees. He stayed just out of sight. Him and his harem finally moved on. We worked them for awhile before they gave us the slip. Put on 7 miles in the timber and brush trying to find them again to no avail. I think they are in the same area. Just able to keep their distance.

Caught 2 bulls bedded last night just before dark. Had to pass. 180 yards was to far under the circumstances. They didnt move. Headed out in a few hoping to get a chance again this morning!
