Muzzle Break

I would get a better recoil pad on it, in the limb saver/ decelerator type it is well worth the small amount of money to get that installed, or you can do it yourself if you have any savvy at all in measuring and using a disk or belt sander.

Breaking in the barrel can be done before or after a muzzle brake if you go that way.  There are many proven ways to break in a barrel, however, the one taught to us in gunsmithing school, was shoot 5 rounds, then thoroughly scrub the bore with a new brush and and clean it good.  Then shoot 5 more and do the same until you reach somewhere between 30 and 50 rounds.  Now some people will say you do not need to do anything, others say you have to used some sort of lapping compound, it is all in personal preference.  That said, I have done it the way I described many many times on new barrels, and they all shoot really well.  I also know ammo is scarce right now, so you may not be able to shoot that much until later.

The .300 WM has no more kick to it than a 7 mag, unless it does not fit you correctly, then any gun will kick the snot out of you.  It is basically the same case, just throwing a different diameter bullet.  I would shoot it, if it bothers you, have a better recoil pad put on it.  If it still bothers you, then get a muzzle brake put on it.

the simms from remington is a limbsaver. I used to shoot a 300 Roy with the factory pad and shot it over 1200 times in the course of load development, all this while weighing in @ a buck-fifty. I say shoot it first, like has been said if you handled the 7 mag. you should handle the 300 win if it fits you

Jbar, I think you should just shoot that gun a couple times for yourself. You will probably figure out you do not need a break on it. My wife at 142 pounds shoots a 300 win mag, she does have a break on it but most of the time it is turned off.

A good recoil pad does wonders, Sims makes an awesome one.

Thanks, BBKLR I think I'm going to do just that! I am waiting for my scope and mounts to arrive so I can finish getting it set up. Plus I can't be shown up by a girl!!

Jbar in no way am I telling you how to shoot or anything in that fashion I am just explaining what I did with my wife and a heck of a lot of soldiers in my lifetime. Go to the range without the scope. Shoot a box or so get comfortable with the gun first, then mount the scope.

In my opinion you go with that scope on you are more likely to make a lot more issues for yourself. I let the wife shoot 150 rounds ( I reload) out of her rifle before we put the scope on for her. She just got comfortable with the recoil of it before and in 5 rounds after scope was on we were walking away from the range zeroed and ready to hunt.
