7mm PRC

Whatcha think. Another cartridge to hype and fizzle out or a realistic niche filled?
Seems to be capable of long for caliber bullets at 2900-3000. Plenty of good 7mm's out there, just hard to get manufacturer support unless it's a rem mag or 7-08...

F-Class John on YouTube has been posting a version of 7 PRC and it seems to be a shooter. He’s been necking up 6.5 PRC brass to 7mm.

This new 7mm PRC is a damn near twin to the 7mm Blaser mag with the 7 PRC case being just a tiny tick shorter.  It's kind of a prefect fit, even with the 180's, for a medium action.  Should make for a great cartridge in a Tikka.  I haven't read anything official yet but my guess is it'll have a case capacity right around 80-82gr H2O which, depending on who's brass you measure, is about the same as the 7mm WSM, 7mm Rem mag and 7mm Blaser mag.

It sounds like it's going to run 175-180gr factory ammo somewhere right around 3000fps.

I think it fills a niche for those that don't reload or have tikka actions. I'm a 7rem mag fan but thinking of trying something new. I have a 7-08 Tikka that I might have rechambered to this. But If I'm building a rifle from the ground up, I'd think that 28 nosler or 7mm stw is a better choice.

The 28 nosler is awesome, a little too awesome.. Average barrel life estimateed at 1,000 rounds.. yikes! Course when a box of ammo is $80 a thousand rounds might be a ways off. When your experimenting with almost 100grns of bmg powders, your in a different category all together.

The 6.8 western is also awesome. It was awesome the first time they made it 20 years ago. I still have a 270wsm I've been meaning to rebarrel. At least you can still order brass, though the western might put a nail in that coffin.

Hornady hasn't let me down yet with the 6.5prc, even with the great ammo depression, they did their best. Not sure I'll end up with the 7 version, the 6.5 has been an incredible little package with a lot of reloading, ammo and rifle support. But if Hornady and the rest of the industry gives the 7prc the same love I think it could do really well.

The SAUM has a fair bit less case capacity then the 7 PRC will have and the 28 Nosler isn't really that comparable because it has quite a bit more case capacity then this new 7 PRC.

The 7 PRC will be very comparable to the 7mm Rem mag and 7 WSM as they all have near the same case capacities.

I've got the Browning X-Bolt Western Hunter in 6.5 PRC and loving everything about it and the caliber so far. I think all the PRCs have their place and will stick around.

I'll be shocked if the 6.8 western is seen much in a few years.  But 7mm PRC seems like a better Elk rifle than the 6.5 PRC ?

I have been kind of wanting a LR wolf rifle, the 6.8w seemed like a good option and maybe for some speed goat fun too
