Thinking about going East, maybe naches, any advice?

For deer, you need to go up to Winthrop/Twisp.  There's not enough hunters up there.

Without spending more time scouting, I'd keep on going once you get to Naches. Head further east.

Pretty much . It's 40 minutes from my doorstep and I don't even go there

With this weather, there is a damn good chance you'll see more rattlesnakes than deer around Naches.

I hunted that area 8 days durning muzzy season and put in over 60 miles on my boots in prime country, and killed the first legal buck I saw on the 8th morning. He was a dink. It’s getting pretty pathetic around here.

Go wherever you want, there are deer most places, but finding them can be difficult. If you have not been in the area scouting before don't expect much on your first trip. Go enjoy your time and think of it as scouting with a chance of hunting. The more time spent the more you get to know it and know where not to hunt as much as where to hunt.

Sometimes the places most people say have low deer numbers are places deer are hard to find and hold some monster bucks that people don't see much. Just go enjoy your time in the woods, no where in WA is going to be easy to find a legal deer with a general tag.

What about Teannaway or Deer Gulch area? I think I read somewhere that there's like 500 hunting camps on every patch of dirt. But like Savage Hunter said at least could enjoy checking out some new ground a new experience it would be really cool just to be somewhere where I could sit in glass a long distance even if I don't see anything at least I wouldn't feel beaten from the get-go because it's so thick you can't see more than 15 ft

Chances for a deer about the same.  Chances for a bigger deer better. Chances of snakebite probably less, chances of being bit in the ass by a wolf better. Chances of finding a cool rock better.

I was wondering about that myself, the daytimes just haven't cooled off yet. Planning to take a video-fogged teenage nerd and a 4yo with us and go for deer, got a little worried about buzzworms... Did you step on any recently, Bone?!?!

So a general idea here, why not hunt your thick areas even Naches, by creating a hot spot/target area with scent and salt mineral block, using game trails as your target feature.  I can assure you, patience vs. blundering around in the thick, wont lower your chances for success.  Hunting deer that are unaware of your presence are far more likely to give you an opportunity than a spooked deer bailing out of bed into a thicket.

Its hard to sit tight, but the odds of a successful conclusion to any opportunity you get, with the deer being unaware of you, will be ultimately higher than a bailed out spooked animal.  I have taken a good number of blacktail and many whitetail that were oblivious to my presence. A few mules too.  Biggest part of success is your presence in the woods watching for that opportunity.  There was a time when "getting it done" in a weekend or 3dayer was not unrealistic. Now, it is, unless you are good to go with a yearling spike still running with mom.

Patience and persistence pay dividends, you have to be there as often as possible and bring your patience with you.  Good luck no matter where you go, dont worry about changing it up a bit, never know, it might work for you.

The locals here account for the biggest part of the success here because a bunch of folks are retired or not working in the woods during season.  Believe me, it changes your odds to be able to hunt from home for deer you know.

I got into a batch of them up on the umptanum ridge earlier this week.   They are congregating but still out.   Temp hovering around 80.  I’m surprised more chukar hunters aren’t crying about their dogs.

Saw 2 this evening just above horseshoe bend on the Naches. One was huddled up underneath sage brush and the other was near the guard rail. Pretty weird to be standing in a northwest river this time of year throwing flies without waders on.
