First elk / ID euro mount recs
« on: October 12, 2022, 09:05:36 PM »
Killed my first bull yesterday - a 5 point! I'm another 2 days packing it out (7 miles from my rig) but looking for an ID taxi good at Euro mounts.  I'm near grangeville but am open to driving other places east side (lewiston, post falls). I'm in 14 which requires cwd testing now so I don't think I can take it back to WA.  Story later!

Do it yourself, lots of threads on the subject here.  Pretty easy, I've probably done over a dozen.  Much more satisfying when you look at something on the wall that you have created yourself.

Doing it yourself is fun and part of the whole “ticket”, but I’m not sure of your situation in regards to locale and cwd.

WA doesn't want any soft tissue from the skull to enter our state, new CWD guidlines, so to stay legal he needs to leave it in Idaho or cut the top of the skull plate off and remove all soft tissue before bringing back into WA.

I wish I knew a taxidermist in Idaho to help you, I love to euro-mount skulls myself, so I am not sure what I will do to my next Idaho notched tag.

If he has a stove, buy a big pot and some dish soap. Boil the skull then bring it to a car wash and hit it with the pressure sprayer

Thanks for the replies, all.  Finally back in cell range.  Turns out you can't even bring the skull out of units 14 or 15 here, which creates a situation where the local taxi freezers are already full.  I guess I could have bought a pot and put it on my wood stove but in the end I just cut the skull plate off.  Not my first choice for a first elk! I feel worse from the 2 parties I met who took down monster sixes.
