Measure this
« on: October 13, 2022, 05:13:13 PM »
Working on an old pic.  It was horrible light.  I’m not sure why I have to claim what day I took the pic or if it matters if it was 2022 , but for those that like big ones, enjoy.

He sure is a pretty buck.  I love the white face and chest.  He would be a wall hanger for sure.

Thanks for posting

I think people just like to know the date because it gives them hope that he’s out there somewhere. I’m just happy to see the impressive bucks you get to photograph. Keep sharing!

Beautiful photography as usual Bone! He's got everything but a lot of mass. Wouldn't matter to me anyways. Looks pretty thin in that pic. Seems like you can almost see his back bone showing. I wonder if he's still out there?

Send me the location and I will measure him personally  :chuckle: :chuckle:

All kidding aside, what a great buck and the shot was framed perfectly.  He sure looks like an old tired bruiser, kind of like Rocky in his tenth movie....  Another outstanding picture Bone!!

Thank you.   He was a last light, appeared out of no where kind of buck.  I was down below him looking up into the bright horizon.  He was on the move trailing.   I was moving hard and fast to cut him off, yet capture some frames.   First look I figured Booner  if he had a little more mass :yike:

Wow!!!! No clue on score but if those ears are 24 inches wide, then I would estimate at least 32 inches of spread. Thanks for sharing!

This buck is a buck of a lifetime for sure.  So hard to predict an accurate measurement from a picture.  But when I see this and start thinking 190's and 200's, I need to remember a few things.  His strengths are many in the scoring department but he does have a few things to consider.  His mass is not as much as you would like to see.  He's not spindly massed but he is not massive massed either.  Other thing to remember is when scoring a mule deer, the inside spread is used and no matter how wide that is, it cannot be more than the length of the longest main beam.  So if you have a 30 inch inside spread measurement and his longest main beam is 24 inches, the spread measurement is 24 and not 30.  His forks are pretty deep and his eye-guards look to be at least 3 inches long.  I would estimate him somewhere around 180-200.  I know that is a huge range for a guess but like I said, scoring a deer from a picture is very tough.  i just love his cape as much as I do his antlers.  Those eyes and his face are amazing.  Like he is old and wise.  Great Buck!

Ear to ear 23 or 24.   Almost an ear length past that. 6 to 8 each side.
Smallest 35 biggest 40.

I figured 38

« Reply #29 on: October 15, 2022, 11:00:54 AM »
I don’t see a 200” deer here. I’ll go 180”. He doesn’t have deep back forks. Right front doesn’t look very strong. Left front looks strong. Width is there but I’m not sure he’s got long main beams so won’t that hurt his width measurement?

Maybe I’m way off. Mostly guessing.

I come up with 199 4/8 gross 196 4/8 net.

        L.         L
MB. 25.        25
G1 3 4/8    3 4/8
G2 17          18
G3 11.          12
G4  14.         13

H1. 4 2/8.      4 2/8
H2. 4.            4
H3.  3 6/8.     3 6/8
H4.  3 4/8.     3 4/8

Inside spread 25

Pretty similar in numbers , give or take a little on each.  I figured about 195ish.  I never felt like he was a 200 deer, but was sure he’d break 190, and figured 195 was likely.

Hard to score from a single picture. Looks like he is a big bodied deer, so we shouldn’t be over scoring because he’s a runt.
