Gmu 260 foster 2nd deer
« on: August 31, 2022, 08:56:53 PM »
Hey y’all. Group of 4 drew foster 2nd tag. One guy has never got a deer in 5 years. Expecting a zoo on the public wildlife areas? Is there enough room to find pockets of deer to fill the tags? Not sure what to expect. Any insight would be helpful. Thank you

Cheers. I saw one area you must register to hunt. Do  all the wildlife areas require this?

there is usually a daily log in registration at all three of the walk in entrances. you just sign your name and your done. but with that said the last few years i have not seen them. the little covered sheds are there but no sign in spots. you will see lots of pressure down low on the Bridgeport side. usually drive in and drive out hunters. there is a group that camp in the bottom and hike every morning up the the upper bench along the areas near the green wheat. every time i have walked through there i park at the top towards Dyer hill. i have jumped deer in there and if you get ahead of the crowed you can usually use them to your advantage. doe's should be a given but if its crowded you may have to look in deep thick areas either just above Bridgeport or position yourself along a green wheat field.

I second what HeavyHorned said...you should have no problem filling the 2nd deer (antlerless) tags, and will probably fill a few buck tags too if your willing to walk/hike a bit in the Wildlife areas. One thing I will add is to be patient and just sit, as hunters will push the deer all day long. If you find a vantage point, break out the spotting scope and learn where the deer run to/from so the next day you know where to set up.

good luck!

Thanks y’all for the advice and tips. On the way from idaho now. We went 2/3 (3rd missed two good bucks). Put on 52 boot miles in 4 days but got it done day 4. Hoping to keep it rolling! Thanks again and good luck out there
