Cherry Valley this morning
« on: October 15, 2022, 07:45:42 PM »
May have broken the vehicle count record at Cherry Valley this morning. There must have been 25-30 vehicles there for west side pheasants about 8:15 when I drove to Monroe. I can’t figure out how that many people can hunt there at the same time without people getting shot.

LOL!!!

I've hunted it a few times way back in the day, even during the weekdays there would be quite a few rigs in there.

Mix in waterfowl once a little water hits and it’s a party.

It’s one of those place you don’t look when you hear other shots.

What’s wrong with a little steal rain?  You just have to dress for it; Kevlar jacket, ADV helmet with visor, leather chaps, wear a cup, and something orange.

This is why I've never hunted upland birds on the west side.

It’s not just there. There are so many folks using public sites it’s crazy.
10 years ago I was into duck hunting more than now. I would get up at 1 am to go get a spot at the Samish unit. Shooting wasn’t till 7 am. I would get my spot on a pond put out a flasher so others when they arrived could see me, wrap up in a tarp in a Predator chair and sleep till shooting with the dog between my legs. Mid week you didn’t have to get there too early. Drove by there last week mid day, blue sky 40 rigs in the lot. Wow

Quality sites all packed. Nuts. On the other hand I found some quiet duck hunting out of my kayak and a few ducks .

The worst are the shooters that try to tag the bird about three feet off from the ground without regard to where the pellets were going to hit. Years ago one of my kids and I were stung severely with pellets and were lucky to not get blinded. That ended my western Washington release site adventures. You can't control what the idiots will do. Being rained on with shot isn't uncommon for bird hunters but direct shots are way different.

I've been hunting these a lot the last couple years. Only got some pellet rain nearby once. We try to talk to guys and coordinate so no one is shooting low shots towards each other.

Turned in a few people that were in before 8am this weekend, it is wayyy too common. Saw them taking 200+ yard shots at geese later...just embarrassing.
