Washington Shed Slam!
« on: October 17, 2022, 09:37:52 PM »
Okay, so not sure if this is a thing, but I’m going for the WA shed slam and so far I think all I need is a moose shed to complete my slam! Lol.
Ive got westside Rosie sheds, Eastside Rocky sheds, mule deer, blacktail, whitetail.. I think I just need a moose shed for the slam if I’m correct.
So…. With that said, I’ve got no idea where to even start to look for a moose shed… I can figure out a spot or two I’m sure looking at the regs and my Onx, but not sure of the habitat or types of area to spend my short times I’ll have to get out this year.. it’s prob gonna be a 5 hour drive for me and with gas prices probably only gonna have a few weekends to hunt… Any tips, advise , not secret spots, insight on how to best hunt for moose shed would be ever so appreciated!
Once I complete this, I’m going to try and make something out of all of them..
Thanks y’all and good luck out there!

Hate to be a pessimist, but you need a caribou and Columbia Whitetail for a true grand slam.

Okay i actually thought about this, but the bio I talked to said that “there are likely no more caribou in Washington state any longer unfortunately” so I didn’t count them.. it was also also mentioned because the Columbia whitetail was a protected species that it won’t be likely to be able to collect an antler. (This was not a biologist that told me that part though). So again, that’s why I didn’t count them, but I should probably look into that a little more.. but in the mean time, I’m gonna try and knock out this moose shed.. maybe I’ll call the “Columbia whitetail addition” the WA Super-Slam! Lol.

Been seeing a bunch of antelope lately.

Maybe you need an antelope as well.

Good luck in your quest.

I have found all but the caribou, do I win anything. 😆. Good luck.  Moose paddles are pretty cool.  The first one I found I was mule deer shed antler hunting.  I spotted the base sticking up I about had a heart attack.  I thought I had found the mega of all muleys.   When you get really bored, coues deer are fun to look for as well.

I did this exact thing when I found my first one! I was up by the survival school near Ruby Creek and it didn't have a paddle to it. Just four big heavy long points. I thought it was a record four point whitetail!

I found a caribou shed in the Selkirks a few years ago.  It was old and beat up, but a true prize and a sad reminder of what used to be.
