How did opening weekend treat you?
« on: October 18, 2022, 07:37:05 AM »
The snows had really moved into Skagit county the week prior to the opener.  Those that scouted saw it, as every field that was available to hunt seemed to have setups in it.  It sounded like a war zone when the snows would get up.  I heard of six different groups that had shot triple digit numbers quickly.  We were done with 75 birds in close to or just past 30 minutes.  It was a wild one.  We could have limited 20 guys had we planned it better.  Some unusual weather as I should have worn shorts and a tee shirt as I was soaked from the inside out packing all the gear in and out.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

Can't believe the number of cacklers around as well. I focused on those as they were using the areas I hunt, not the snows. That limit goes faster than the new snow limit.

My 40 pound golden appreciated their compact size!

Went very well for us. Same spot we've been doing the opener for almost 20 years. Cast n blast in Grays Harbor that  has very predictable birds. Silvers were stacked but most were lockjaw. Took a new face to the spot who will also be learning the coast this season. Always great to see someone light up when real numbers of birds get moving.

Lots of cacklers and specs around.  Saw some big groups of cacklers flying around and landing in various fields.  We shot 5 on the opener and should have had a few more.

Only skunk on east side and way to dry with poor gas prices.  I threw some old duck deeks away hahaha, retirement from hunting is starting to feel more like a reality sooner than later.
Don't read my post if facts hurt your feeling.
