Only one way to hunt an area? See how that works with a wind change.

Exactly what I was thinking. What happens when the thermal switches and camp stinks up the drainage.

Public land is just that. It’s all of ours.  Free to do on it whatever we would like within the confines of the laws of man and the laws of nature. Drive a super loud truck through every open road after shooting light I don’t care, I’ve already ninja’d into the crap you won’t go into ready to pounce on a fleeing animal bumped by other careless hunters.

Or maybe I’ll bump an animal to you. Last Saturday evening hunt I was heading back to the truck as light was waning. My wind was blowing into a thick patch of baby pines, prime bedding for deer and elk. I knew a whitetail buck was in the area because I had put the crosshairs on him the night before just couldn’t see a third point. Not five minutes after I walked upwind of that bedding I heard a shot. I started feeling bad like I’d hunted it poorly but then I switched it around and felt happy for the other hunter. We just never know when our folly is going to be another’s opportunity. Thanks for reading! Good luck this season!

This post should get interesting. I can only imagine how I would act if another hunter came up to me as this post was presented.  :chuckle:

You wouldn't be appreciative if someone gave you intel that you otherwise did not have....Like, when you approach from the south on this ridge...you are walking through  the bedding area.  Approach from the North or East and the herd will walk by you if you are patient enough?  I suppose being new to an area and knowing all there is to know about an area makes you a better hunter than the guy(s) that have hunted it for many years prior to your showing up.

Maybe I am misreading the OP's post, but that is what happened in our instance and most hunters were very appreciative.  Hell one hunter, a young guy actually got to sling an arrow in the following days (he missed) but he was super excited he got that intel.

As in this thread, it is all about the presentation

Sumpins in the air.........several threads lately with good intentions.......but really bad presentation.
Im going to go have another whisky.  :brew:

HEY I resent that :chuckle:   At least we are posting unlike all these damn lurkers.  :chuckle:   and it stimulates good conversations between good folks

This belongs in the bigfoot thread...........................Irrefutable!  >:(

You bumped into some boot tracks that were bumping around in the bumping so you want to bump into the guy so he doesnt bump the elk out of the bumping, and said bumped boot track guy in the bumping is/may be lucky you don;t bump his teeth out in the bumping. And NO I have not took a bump off the bottle this AM!     :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Now THAT was funny!

I came across this boot print last Saturday while checking out the area in the Bumping unit where my friends and family have hunted the modern firearm elk season for almost two decades.

Approximately size 10.5.  Newer Vibram tread.

If you're the one that came off the ridgeline and flagged a stream crossing with orange tape near a small log jam, poked around a bit and then headed back up, I'd like to have a conversation with you...and perhaps an offer.

Thanks.

I started thinking about this one way, but changed up, and now believe he really does want to make sure 'that guy' does not waltz through the area and screw up everyones hunt.
I have done the same in a few different area's in EWa. I am about 75% they ignore the advice and 'do their own thing', which is their right, but it certainly can mess up everyones hunt. Noisy people are the worst.
I have had folks do the same with me over the years, and unless I know the area and they are sending me on a 'wild chase', I will work with them.
Cuterebra are NOT cute!

 :yeah:

I'm not an arsehole, I hear em out, it's just been my experience they want to send me on a wild goose chase, or they want me to bird dog for them.  Or preferably,  they talk me out of hunting there all together

"Might as well go elsewhere, we've been hunting this for (insert random years) and know what we're doing so it's going to be a waste of time or you'll screw it up for everyone"

A guy could literally get ping ponged around the mountian, this camp has that, that camp has that over there, those guys hunt that on and on

I was thinking about taking the dog out grouse hunting in the bumping unit on the elk opener.  Did some pre scouting and flagged some creek crossings.  Saw some HUGE deer prints and deer droppings the size of whoppers.  Fortunately deer seasons closed huh!?  Good luck all you bumping grouse hunters this year!  😳

Indeed! They should by some land adjacent to public, and then throw up some chain to keep the public from the public.  ;) :chuckle:
