White River Elk
« on: October 21, 2022, 06:08:06 PM »
I just wanted to take the time to say thank you to any/everyone that helped me with info when I was trying to plan my dad's hunt. I reached out to anyone I thought could help and most of you did. We had everything stacked against us. High temps, timber closers, dad's hip flaring up and sadly his father n law passing away cutting our trip short. In the end we finally found the elk and should/could have killed a bull but we didn't.

Sincerely thanks again to everyone that helped me try to get dad his 1st bull.

Always tough having to cut a hunt short. There is something to be said for spending time with loved ones in beautiful country. Best of luck on the next one!

We didn't pass anything. He missed a 5x on Thursday night and couldn't get the other bull in his scope Friday morning.

Hit me up..  Were ya up high on the 5x5?  Hmm.  We found one up there as well but no shot at the time.  I also struggled with helping Dad and his bad hips.  We found plenty elk but getting to em to shoot wasnt in the cards for him.  The snow is changing the game and with time left maybe a different strategy will work out in lower elevations?  We do have some decent spots down low and time.  I know Crystal mnt has 4-12" snow depending and still building up.  Elk should be moving soon.
MAGA!  Again..

Update on our struggles.  I had to go back working.  Dad went low and found a spike.  We Got him out today.  Its funny Dad has some nice bulls on his wall from years back but this little spike made him as happy as the bulls did!  At 70yo and putting in the effort to his best ability getting a spike was a big deal!  Perspective.  Now its time to get out the grinder soon.

Well things are funny.

Dad drew last year and we could/should have killed a bull but everything kinda went to hell. Going into this draw my hopes were way to high. I was setting myself up for a big fall.

Well... Looks like I get my turn at getting it done. So excited, cant wait. Anyone else who draws let me know, maybe we can meet up.
