Late modern hunt westside wa
« on: November 06, 2022, 03:28:01 PM »
Hello  my name is Brett I’m 30. I live in anacortes . I know it’s a long shot but I’m curious if anyone has any room for a hunting newbie to tag along with them on a late hunt. I also have a elk tag for modern hunting but it’s for the east side and sadly I only have a car and no 4x4 vehicle . I’m not even worried about killing an animal , I just want to get out there and get some more experience .

Thank you all for your time,
  Brett

Hey Brett. Tough time to ask as the seasons are nearing their end. Good on you for putting yourself out there. If inwas you I'd start planning ahead for next year and see if you can team up with some folks on scouting trips in the spring/summer. It's my experience that folks are more willing to share when they have a chance to share some time in the woods with a guy prior to the season in question. Just my two cents. If I knew your area up north better I'd give you some input, but I don't. Good luck!
I hunt, therefore I am.... I fish, therefore I lie.

Thank you for the reply and I totally understand what your saying , I knew it would be a long shot but figured you never know . This is my first year hunting and have already learned a lot. I just gotta get out there even if it’s by myself .

I was a beginner a few short years ago too.  Here's my advice.
Download mapping software and save offline maps.  Drop pin on your ride to not get lost.  Get clothes that keep you warm and dry and go give it hell.  Sometimes the solo hunts are the best, you'll learn a lot about the animals and about your own mental fortitude.

If I lived there, I'd see if I could get on Cypress Island it all looks like DNR.  Any deer too which can be nice if you just want to fill a tag and your freezer.
Anyway, just FYI, I do the best hunting on my own nowadays.  Usually late seasons for me are the most productive in notching tags.  Less people out messing up the place.  Just me tip toe-ing through the woods.  And November is the WT rut so there's that! Have fun, be safe and good luck!
