North Idaho Moose Unit 3
« on: October 26, 2022, 09:43:29 AM »
A buddy of mine drew the november tag for this hunt. The bulls should be done responding to calls and back onto the feed pretty heavy, what tactics would you guys be using to locate bulls in the post rut season?

Thanks in advance!

My wife has a tag that goes till the end of Nov, what I’ve heard is we need the foliage to fall off the brush and trees.  The bulls right now can still feed inside the thick stuff, they don’t necessarily spend more time in the open, they are just easier to find. Good luck!

Cover ground and glass. They’ll be feeding in the clear cuts quite a bit that time of year.

Rut isn’t done.   In fact it’s kinda cool if you find a receptive cow as there may be as many as 20 bulls courting her.
Multiple times while hunting mule deer in November I’ve stumbled on to this.

This.

My own moose tag and the many, many tags I've helped out on in north idaho over the years...November was always the most fun hunting for me...just spotted waaaay more moose once those pesky leaves go away.

Thanks guys, we're hoping the leaves are falling off with the colder wetter weather the unit has been having. Season opens in a few days, its almost moose time! This will be my 3rd moose hunt I have helped on, the other two went well so here is to hoping this one follows suit.

Super cool to find. Nearly Impossible to call bulls as they are usually chasing hard.  Good Ol moose orgy. Seen it a few times Early November. Once with 18 bulls chasing 2 cows.

I killed a nice bull in there in 2017.  Not many moose when I hunted.  Please give me a PM for more info.

It was an awesome hunt, plenty of moose, no big bulls though. He shot a solid 41.5 inch bull.
