What a bunch of BS. They don’t even try to plow that pass anymore.

Total Bull S#!T.
There was only 4" on top of Chinook on Tuesday, with a spin out in the afternoon coming down the westside.
From someone in a Prius or Tesla. (You know where they were from).
I think the Park service and the D.O.T suck big time.  (sorry for the outburst)

Has anyone been on top of pyramid today?  I can’t imagine there is that much snow up there looking at the mountains on my way home.

If you go on Washdot website, then scoll down to site index, click on that, then go down to mountain pass closures, they have open and
close dates back to 1935. It has closed only 5 times since 1948 before November 6th. The last 16 years after Nov 7th or later.
It is all about Mount Rainier park wanting to close it!! D.O.T does not care-- They still get paid. Total BS.
Last year Sept 26th I went in White river gate to a spot to watch big bulls early am. Awesome! I went back on Sept 28th late in the day to hang with them till dark. When I got to the gate, the Park employee informed me the road  was closed. (Bear in mind it was decent weather) When I
ask why? She said -- it might snow. I said who made that F*&king decision? She slide the window shut. Talk about pissed.
Granted there was a forecast for snow the next day. To many *censored*s from Seattle poking around to be safe??

That’s a pretty bold statement to call the plow drivers lazy asses. Especially considering how short staffed they were last year and again this year (yeah I know a few drivers and they work hard as hell to keep the roads open). Maybe point the finger at those in charge not the workers out there risking life and limb on the roadway of getting hit by distracted or other types of drivers. If jay wouldn’t have fired nearly half the staff of DOT on 18 Oct 2021 maybe this crap wouldn’t be happening now. But what do I know.

Putting sand on chinook and Cayuse isn’t going to keep those passes open. It gets icy up there really quick plus they’re no commerce allowed to go over those passes. No real good reason to keep those roads open when there are better safer routes to take.

You are correct! I retract that statement. It is not the snow plow drivers decision. It does come from much higher up. The MRNP plays a big part of it.

I was at Crystal Sat.  Quick walk up a hill had me in 8".  3" at bottom road of ski resorts.  Above 4500' was getting snow pretty steady.  I cant imagine it has got better?
MAGA!  Again..

 Didn’t mean to be so fiery but I work along side those guys during the winter and it’s S-hitty on the east side most of the winter. My crew and I have had to many close calls so it hit home. Have a good hunting season

I have to be just on the side of complaining about this, it seems the first snow that flies up there and they close it.  I wouldn't be surprised to see it rain up top for the next 3 weeks and the snow wash away.  AND, if it did, they still wouldn't reopen it.
“In common with”..... not so much!!

With the cost of fuel right now I guess the state will save a lot of money not having to sand and plow those roads. So it seems like a good decision to me.
