Chainsaw/wood cutting chain ?
« on: October 28, 2022, 06:31:10 AM »
Have asked around about this and found little to no explanation. What style chain is throwing off curls instead of chips? Cross grain cuts.

Did you cut the wood?  This happens when you crosscut, “easier splitting”.   Never seen it like that from any other way.

I suspect it may have something to do with the type of wood and how it is seasoned also?

That looks like doug fir wood to me, is that correct?

I get shavings like that when ripping with the grain, but never when cuttting cross grain.

I'm curious also and hope someone has a solid answer.

The wood was cut with the grain not across the grain. I do that with big rounds so the initial split is easier.

An area I hunt has a guy that cuts firewood and has long shavings coming out of his saw, just not quite that long.

I’ve always wondered how he gets such long shavings.

Most likely a very sharp full skip, square ground chisel, ripping chain.

Yep 100% skip tooth full chisel chain from ripping rounds with the grain. I do this a lot with my 362 and green wood since I don't have a wood splitter
