Hand operated motion duck decoys advice.

Hello  fellow water fowlers.

14years ago I went hunting with a family friend,  and he built a hand cracked spinning device that attracted ducks. Now he made his out of a snake pipe cleaner and other products.  But because it was so long ago I forgot how he made it and I lost contact of the person. So the question I'm asking has anyone ever seen or made or bought a hand operated spinning decoy or device to attract ducks that actually works?

I used a broken fishing pole (one guide and handle) and reel. I let the weight line slide through the decoy so I cast out the decoy and weight, then could give a tug on it once in a while. End of the day, reel it in.
I would carry a decoy and the wife would carry one. We would put the two out while taking a break.
I have seen big set ups with multiple decoys tied together on a framework that was pretty impressive.

Same here on the fishing pole decoy. The 'rod' is actually a 2' stick of pvc with a beater spinning reel. Calm days, just set the hook when birds are looking away.

I've made a spinning wing decoy that works like a knotty duck where you pull the string in and out, but it's pretty noisy and overall finnicky. Way more reliable is the jerk string. I use a small basket with elastic tubing tied to it, then braided fishing line to the tubing. I fill the basket with rocks and sink it out in the spread, then hook weightless decoys to loops in the fishing line. The line all gets spooled into a fishing reel.

They used to sell the Speedo ducks.  Used a speedomter cable attached to a reel and would spin the wings.  I know Notty Duck has a setup with a reel to spin the wings or you can opt for the pull string version.  Whiplash also makes ones.  Those are the main two that are around today.  Paul Sullivan used to make the Aero pull string ones which I also have, but I don't believe he is making those any more.  If you have some machining talent or have a buddy that can, you can make a setup.  Just need a spool, wheel, pulley, etc. mounted to the duck shell with some line ran to a reel.  The ticket is keeping the line fairly tight and utilizing a bait caster reel to spin the wings.  I have made a few different versions over the years, but after they broke or wore out, I just went and purchased commercialized one.  Whipsplash is what I currently run.  Made by Eric Strand of Decoy Dancer.  I have 4 or 5 of them.
