Rookie Game Camera Question
« on: November 15, 2022, 12:35:08 PM »
New trapper here.  Where I plan to trap (bobcats, raccoons, critters in cage traps) is about 90 minutes from where I live.  There's decent cell coverage there. So I was planning to put a cell-phone enabled game camera near my trap so that I can monitor it without actually going out to monitor it every 24 hours.  From what I've read, that is totally legal --  anyone disagree?  So now my real question -- assuming that's ok, if I want to put out 4 or 5 traps, and not pay for 4 or 5 cell plans, has anyone figured out how to set up an outdoor router with a sim card, and then use wifi-enabled game cameras?  Outdoor line of site range for 802.11n is somewhere between 150 and 300 feet from the router.  Just checking to see if anyone has tried this.  Would still need to go out every 3 or so days to refresh etc., but that's easier than every day.  Thanks in advance.

Ha!  I'm starting to answer my own questions... I guess if I get a router set up, I could probably just go the route of battery-powered wi-fi security cameras.  Anyone tried that?  Or see any problems with it?  I think it will all just come down to wifi range??

Most cell cameras gave additional cameras at a discount. Mine is $13 per month and $5 for each additional camera.

Thanks for the info.  What cameras and cell provider do you use?  Much appreciated...

I don’t know the brand but they have cell camera system that has other cams that relay pics to 1 camera then that 1 sends you the pics
I just looked it up it’s cuddebac and it’s their cuddelink tech you use several cams they relay them to 1 and you only use 1 cell plan
