Probably the hardest animals for most taxidermists to get right are bobcats, otter, and marten. If the taxidermist doesn't have pictures of previous work he has done, that should be a clue to look for someone else.
I think many new taxidermists think that the forms they buy are anatomically correct. That might be the case for deer, but most anything else is just an approximation; particularly on the smaller animals. A taxidermist talent will really show when they can take a form and rework it to make it correct.
