Perhaps the title should be changed to "Alaskan Brown Bear unscathed by ice axe and multiple gunshots".
Perhaps I read the article wrong, but the person carrying the 357 was a friend of the hunter. Not the guide. Maybe the sporting goods store was out of 6.5 Creedmoor ammo.
Not sure why it matters that it was Brown.

What a story! I would think the .357 would make a big bear reconsider its plan. I do wonder if he was able to connect with any of those shots?

If you don't kill them on the spot, these stories all look pretty similar - the bear does whatever it wants.The bear got stabbed in the head, likely shot multiple times with pistol and rifle and still charged three times.Crazy story for sure.
