Not sure why it matters that it was Brown.
While the color of the bear may not be important, based on the group photo, I'll bet they all had wished they wore their brown pantaloons that day...

They may not have been brown at the beginning of the day but I bet they were at the end of the day.

I learned two things, which I actually already knew:

#1. When in dangerous animal country, carry your rifle with a safari sling, across your chest......the rifle is more available, it seems to make it lighter and it leaves your hands free.

#2. Have a backup handgun, of sufficient power, in a chest rig (Kenai Holster).

All based on the simple principle that your hand (arm, elbow) can most easily move to your chest to access a weapon.

Perhaps I read the article wrong,  but the person carrying the 357 was a friend of the hunter. Not the guide.
Maybe the sporting goods store was out of 6.5 Creedmoor ammo.

Nice!  lol

And carry a clean pair of underwear in your pocket.

What a story! I would think the .357 would make a big bear reconsider its plan. I do wonder if he was able to connect with any of those shots?
I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury a terd on a frozen pond!

If you watch two male grizz fighting, I'm not sure there is a gun you can carry that will cause them to reconsider anything.  If you don't kill them on the spot, these stories all look pretty similar - the bear does whatever it wants.

The bear got stabbed in the head, likely shot multiple times with pistol and rifle and still charged three times.

Crazy story for sure.

Read Reddy Roosevelts adventures hunting in the West. It wasn’t uncommon to put 20 rounds of 30-40 Kraig into a big brownie. And now the bunnyhuggers want to bring griz back into their hiking grounds in the North Cascades. Yeah, right…..

I’ve had thoughts face to face with a wolf with my rock pick, but thats a whole new level of pucker.

^^That resonates. On a climbing approach hike one summer in BC I had a standoff for 20-30 seconds with a black bear at 15 feet.  I was VERY aware of the ice ax in hand and planning how to use it if he attacked.  No other weapon.

What a misleading title. I guess it’s cool that he stuck a bear to bad it didn’t do anything. Would have been great if they could have shot it instead lol
