Found out my Chessie/lab has Cushing's disease, just wondering if anybody else has dealt with it and what results they got from the treatment.

I had to put down a horse that had it.  She could have live with it for years but it would be painful and cost several hundred dollars a month just to keep her semi alive.  My wife had her for 20 something years and decided the she deserved not to be in pain the rest of he life.  What made it worse is I lost my Grandfather a couple of hours after we put our mare down.  Talk about a bad day.

Yes I have with my boxer. We finally put him down a few months ago. There are some medications and some procedures that can help. If you do a few googles and take the information to your vet there are ways to deal with it. Nothing worked for us and things got really bad for our family. Rudy (Boxer) would loose his badder when he got up or when he was excited. He would drink so much water and eat so much food it was ridiculous. He would break into anything he could to get food towards the end. He looked like he was starving but he was eating four times what our Golden Retriever was eating. He would eat until he vomits then go back at it again. It was horrible. If there are treatments that will work for your dog it is a blessing. My only advice is don't keep her with you to the point that you distroy the relationship between you. It is so maddening when you have friends over and your dog walks over and pees in front of them. Don't take it out on her as she can't help it. If you keep her with this you MUST take her outside everytime she gets up, every time she eats, every time she gets excited. If she can become an outside dog that will help. You also have to limit all sources of water as she will drink until she gorges herself.

I can go on and on as we suffered this for a few years.

Thanks for the info.  I'm not going to let her suffer with this in any way, she has been too good of a dog for almost 13 years for me to let her go out that way.  She needs to keep her dignity, but I sure hate to lose her, she has by far been the best dog that I have seen, and I'm going to miss her.

My Chesapeake female got it at age 8 (along with other health problems). Rather than subject her to what amounts to chemo-therapy, my wife and I had her put to sleep.

She was the best dog I've ever had... :(
