Late Winthrop Hunts???

Well how did it go?

I know of two taken, The snow was not good. Couldnt get around.

I saw several small bucks popped because of the deep snow.

I talked with a couple of tag holders in the early part of the hunt. Haven't heard boo since then. Hoping things went well for them. I know the snow was rough.

I do hope some of the hunters show back up, even with tag soup.   One of my peeves are folks that ask for help in a thread and surely get it, and never report back.   I think it makes everyone a wee bit snarly

Snow was rough but I was still able to get one.

My buddy who had the 231 Gardner Whitetail tag did not shoot a buck. The heavy snow really messed it up for the mule deer hunters more than the whitetail guys IMO.
very little access to secondary roads. We did see lots of Whitetail including one decent buck, however, all on private land. Temps were 4- 20 degrees.
The best part of the trip was we watched a big migrating Muley for 3 days. He was a 7x9 and 28-30 wide.
He managed to avoid the mule deer hunters because he liked the private land also.

That was an exit wound from a bullet a friend of mine gave me to try, I will not be using them again.

Holy moly......do you mind sharing what bullet / caliber.  That is quite the exit wound. 

Still a stud buck for sure.....I keep zooming in to get a better look at the antlers and am enamored by the dark heavy horns with trash.  Love it.

Had two folks I knew that had tags in two different units. Snow was a factor in both units and hindered the hunt to a certain extent. One ate tag soup (he’s very picky and has killed many tape measure bucks, had something in mind he did not see), the other killed a buck that was a 26” wide 4 by 5, he was very happy with it. Both are friends of mine going back 35 and more years ago, both know the valley very well. Both said with the amount of snow that was on the ground and it’s timing they expected to see a lot more deer than what they did.
