Blue Mt Foothills Suggestions? & sons first buck
« on: November 22, 2022, 12:17:08 PM »
I drew late season Blue Mtn Foothills for Muzzleloader which is open now till Dec 8th for 3pt min whitetail. It covers GMUs 149 (Prescott), 154 (blue creek), 162 (Dayton), & 166 (Tucannon).

It covers such a vast area that I don't know all of what is available for good hunting. I have areas I plan to hunt but am always open to suggestions and tips. If you have any suggestions, messages are appreciated.

Thanks, and I hope everyone is enjoying time in the outdoors and has a great Thanksgiving.

This is a picture of my sons first buck taken this year. Were were lucky to spot him within 30 minutes of first light. He never sensed us so my son had plenty of time to get setup, get a solid rest, and made a great 250 yard shot.

Hit the Wooten wildlife area down on the tucannon. There’s feel free to hunt down in the area as well. The whitetail have taken a huge hit with blue tongue so low numbers. If you have onx there is quite a bit of state land and feel free to hunt.
Happiness is being in the woods!!!

thanks for the tips teanawayslayer. I do have Onx and plan to hunt Wooten. I haven't been seeing lots of deer, so the blue tongue explains it. Its always frustrating when most the deer I see are down towards town  :bash:

We've had some success on the FFTH lands just SE and NE of Walla Walla in 154. Those aren't secret spots, but with only 45 tags, I'll guess they are not too busy.

I’m in the Tucannon now with the same tag, on my third day.  It’s been pretty slow.  I’m seeing deer but not the quantity I hoped for.  Couple real nice mule deer bucs, and only one nice whitetail on private.  The majority of does I’m seeing don’t have bucs with them quite yet.  I have been hunting tucannon and the wind farms and all in between.

Whitetail were hit hard with the BT. Last year in areas we normally see 10+ a day we saw none the whole season. This year we saw a couple small groups in 5 days. Shod be more to find up in the timber IMO. Good luck
