Affordable quality Optic for Rem 700 Classic
« on: December 06, 2022, 10:17:43 AM »
I need to replace the on my .30-06 with something more like 4-16. The Steiner on my AR is a great scope but it's got a couple of problems. 1st, it doesn't have a turret option and changing the zero is a challenge. 2nd, my eyes are old and shooting out to 300 yards, 10x just isn't enough anymore. I can't afford a new Leupold or Vortex. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I don't know what your price range is but eurooptic has good prices at the moment.....Look in their sale and used/demo sections.

Have you looked at the LEUPOLD SCOPE VX-FREEDOM CDS 4-12X40?

Depending on budget I sell Leupold's and might be able to help you save a few $

I have a Rem 700 LR (.300 WinMag).......it has a Burris Veracity 2-10x42 and is an awesome scope.....($500-600 range). 300 yards is about the limit for my eyes.....but with 42mm, it might be enough for you. Great glass and it provides a very sharp image.

These are all great links. I'll be able to buy a great scope for $400 or less. Thanks guys.

I'd certainly want to deal with a site sponsor like you, Carp. We can speed this along if you need to do a refi!!!  :chuckle: I learned QPQ from our President, Dementia Joe.

I have a NIB Burris FFIV 4.5-14 that I would sell within your budget.

Frankly, I have much more confidence in Burris durability than I do in those 'AMAZING WARRANTY!' replacement companies.

Not ready to pull the plug yet. I need to close another mortgage first. I will refer back to this thread when the time comes. Thanks.

I have several Vortex (2 PST Gen 2), have had Nightforce (Best Ive had), and have one Leupold Freedom 3-9 on a lightweight Storm to keep the weight to a minimum.  The Leupold has the Tri-MOA reticle and is so easy to shoot at 300 yards, Id think the 4-12 would be perfect if you wanted 500.  Make a laminated cheat sheet card to attach to your range finder and no monkeying with turrets.  For a relatively affordable hunting scope its VX Freedom all the way.
