Have you looked at the LEUPOLD SCOPE VX-FREEDOM CDS 4-12X40?

Depending on budget I sell Leupold's and might be able to help you save a few $

I have several Vortex (2 PST Gen 2), have had Nightforce (Best Ive had), and have one Leupold Freedom 3-9 on a lightweight Storm to keep the weight to a minimum.  The Leupold has the Tri-MOA reticle and is so easy to shoot at 300 yards, Id think the 4-12 would be perfect if you wanted 500.  Make a laminated cheat sheet card to attach to your range finder and no monkeying with turrets.  For a relatively affordable hunting scope its VX Freedom all the way.
