Two stroke oil
« on: December 15, 2022, 06:23:11 PM »
The two normal places I buy 2-stroke oil now have it priced at $50 per gallon.  Not very long ago it was $29 & sale priced at $24.  Anyone have advice, suggestions?

For what?

I just tried Lucas in my bike, it was like half the smoke or less than the Kawasaki stuff.

I think I have three gallons of Quiksilver I will give you a deal on.  Might take some work to meet up though.  Let me know.

Price of all oils has gone up at alarming rates. Durex bar oil was $9/gallon a year or so ago, now it’s north of $15. That said when I comes to mix oil for 2 stroke, I will only run amsoil in my sled and dirt bike, I had hundreds of hours on a cr250 top end before a rebuild and it still looked new, their stuff is on the upper end of spendy but imo it’s worth it when they preform better and less damage to internals.  :twocents:

It’s quite possible to run a two stroke on nondetergent 30wt oil. Though more than likely you would need to adjust your jets for a 25:1 mix since it’s not specifically made for two strokes. It’ll smoke some but run fine. the stuff most commonly sold today is for a 50:1mix and has some special ultralube additives.
I generally use one gallon ketchup type packets but I’m darn sure willing to go ND30wt if I’m in a bind

Klotz R50 is up to $70/gal but wouldn’t trust anything else except maybe Amsoil Dominator in my Sand Bikes.

Have you trie buying in bulk from an outboard dealer/service shop?  I get 5 gallon bucket refills of Yamalube for considerably less.

I buy Yamalube for $35 a gallon off ebay and this price includes tax and shipping.

Be careful using TCW-2/3 oils in air cooled engines. TCW stands for Two Cycle Water cooled, and is designed for cooler temperatures than you get with air cooled power equipment. I know that many people run anything that says two cycle oil, but they are designed differently. If you are running an air cooled engine hard, like a professional chainsaw that runs all day long, TCW oil will carbon up the rings after time.
