Help me select a new 10x42 binocular
« on: December 22, 2022, 04:32:08 PM »
Hey all,

Merry Christmas to all and I hope life is treating you well.

I am moving on from my Vortex Viper 10x42 binoculars.  They have been sent in twice already and in need of a third trip.

I am needing advice on binoculars around $500 to $700.  Not as great a hunter as most on this board and need better bang for the buck.  Might stretch the budget a bit.

Have been looking at Leupold  BX-4 Pro Guides.  Would like these to last awhile.  Your thoughts?  Appreciate it.

I'm using the vortex Razor HD and I like those a lot too, I get them on discount though

I have had several different bino’s over the years and was never satisfied until I purchased my Swarovski’s! Save up until next summer and look for a used pair!  :twocents:

Leupold gets my vote for mid-range optic.  I have 10x50's, bought new in 2007?  Sent in when eye cups went bad, brand new pair sent out, no questions asked, had the new one's for 5-7 years now, improved design on eye cup, great glass for your buck. Dad has 10x42's equally as good, hell you can get the rainier version at costco for like 160 bucks, they also had a zeiss 10x42 I believe for like 250-300, bet those are good too!

I have the Leupolds. They are great. I scratched up my first pair really bad with no binocular harness and sent them back. They sent me a brand new pair. I’m a big fan of leupold.

I have the Leupold  BX-4 HD Pro Guides.  I love them for a mid-range $$ bino.  I ditched all my Vortex crap and went Leupold.  Sick of sending them all in, some multiple times, PITA.  I have had some of my Leupold scopes for 30+ years and have never had to send anything in to them.
Look man, some times you just gotta roll the dice

There are two things you want to spend your money on. Boots and Binos.   If you are serious at all, invest in glass.  I look over 1000s of deer and elk a year. Swaros really can’t be beat. No trouble with progressive lens, no trouble switching back and forth between my wife and I.  Great service. Due to age and use, the eye ups deteriorated…..replaced for free no questions asked.  Had them within three days.  If you are serious, invest

Another leupold fan. Have the bx4 pro guide HD in 10x42 and the 12x50. Absolutely love them both.

I own both Leupold and Swarovski and they are in a different league when compared side by side.   I really like my Leupold with one exception…..and it’s a big one….the eye cups are very uncomfortable.  It makes classing for any period of time very hard to do.   I also have a pair of zeiss Tera binos which I would buy over Leupold for that one reason.

Find what fits and works for you.  Lots of good glass oh there.  If you want top tier glass, save up and spend the money….you won’t regret it.

I can’t speak to the Leupolds but the Zeiss conquest HD are a very good sub 1k option as well. Dad has a pair and they are dang close to my Leicas and SLC’s

Look on Rokslide. Find some good used Meopta Meostars or other thousand dollar glass for the price you want to spend.

I have Meostars and highly recommend them. You can find many reviews that compare the to top tier glass. You could probably also get new Meopros in your price range.

I bought my wife a pair of Leupold bx4 and they are nice but not quite up to par with the Meostars.

You may also be able to find some used Zeiss or Nikon Monarch hg glass close to what you want to pay and be very happy with them.

All the Swaros people are talking about are great but apparently those same people don't realize they are 3 to 4 times above your price range.
