Goldenrod Gun Safe Dehumidifier
« on: December 27, 2022, 09:54:18 AM »
I was in my gun safe last night and it dawned on my that I'm still using the same Goldenrod dehumidifier that my dad bought in the early to mid 1980's. I can't believe this thing is still working. Almost 40 years. That's pretty cool.

Ive never had one, are your safes out in the weather or an unheated area?

My safe is in an unheated and sometimes damp garage. Not a speck of rust on any of my guns in all this time.

Thanks, that was my guess, so far all my safes are in the house.

I use the rechargeable 1's from Amazon. Forget the name of them.  Unfortunately these suck. My safes are in my garage as well but I dont have the luxury of using a plug in dehumidifier.  There is no holes punched through in my safe. Stupid question but would it wise to punch a hole in each safe so I can plug in a unit?  I'm charging these ones about every 5 days in the fall, winter, spring depending on weather. Thanks for any info

That's what my dad did, and I inherited this safe and the Goldenrod from him. But I have no experience with other types of dehumidifiers.

Thanks,  I think I'll look into a bit more and drill my own hole for power and drain plug.  Seal it up with a rubber gasket
