Cougars!!!
« on: January 29, 2023, 06:46:23 PM »
We bought 20 acres in Okanogan county that closed in Nov, I reached out to the guy who owns the property next to us this week and he told me there is a cougar problem in our draw, he took this pic last July and said he had seen 6 at one time, assuming it’s a female with kits, guess I will be buying cougar tags for all my kids come next season   >:( >:(

Not sure what GMU you are in, but there are only a couple of GMUs that are closed at the moment. Winter is the best time to hunt cougars.???

Are you further up by Winthrop/Twisp area? Throw in the wolves, bears, and coyotes and you have a big predator problem.  But that's nothing new there.

We are in Wauconda, yes, there are plenty of predators in the Okanogan hills, we will be doing our part to trim them down in our area, luckily there are some deer still around

This is the same story for all rural property owners in Eastern WA.  Cougars are (in my opinion) one of the biggest contributors to our declining deer population.  Our property in the NE corner has cougars (pics of 4 at one time), bear, coyotes, wolf, etc....It's no wonder we have any deer left.

Hope you and your kids can whack a few cats this year....it would surely help your deer numbers.

You don't want to buy the story that they were here first and they only take the young, the sick, the injured and the old.

To me that sums up every deer, elk and every other animal out there.

Yup... GMU 101 is still open for late cats through April 30th.

Gary
One does not hunt in order to kill; on the contrary, one kills in order to have hunted. If one were to present the sportsman with the death of the animal as a gift he would refuse it. What he is after is having to win it, to conquer the surly brute through his own effort and skill with all the extras that this carries with it: the immersion in the countryside, the healthfulness of the exercise, the distraction from his job. ~ Jose Ortega y Gasset

Well they may move on after all the deer, dogs, cats etc are gone but it's best to extinguish them before then.
