Maven vs Athlon spotter?
« on: January 23, 2023, 08:55:49 PM »
Wondering if anyone on here has much experience with either or both? There’s about a $1,000 dollar price difference, but I’m usually a big believer in buy once cry once.
I’m mostly concerned with glass quality. Weight is not a big issue since I rarely hunt with my spotter, it’s mostly for summer scouting. Any input from anyone who’s ran either of these spotting scopes is greatly appreciated.

Maven S.1A 25-50x80

Athlon Cronus G2 UHD 20-60x86

at the maven price I would go with Zeiss gavia or pony up a few hundred more and buy a Swarovski ats hd 80

AtTS65 with the wide angle 25-50 eye piece is going to be hard to beat for less than $400 more than the Maven.

I’ll look into the Zeiss…the only Swaro ats hd 80’s I can find for under $3200 are for the tube only, eye piece not included. But thanks for the Zeiss suggestion.

That’s another good idea, I see they have the ats-65 HD 20-60x65 for $2,550. Thanks for your input.

sorry this isn't answering your question but have you looked through the 18x56 maven bino's next to a spotter?  For sure the spotter can zoom in better, but the field of view is pretty damn awesome with the 18x56's and easier to carry.
“In common with”..... not so much!!

I have a pair of 15 power vortex vultures that I use for picking stuff up at long distance then switch to the spotter to get a better look at it. And I don’t carry any big glass hunting, just a pair of 8’s. But thanks

 :yeah:

If you do more back packing go with 65mm Swaro. Even an ATS 80 is lighter than the 2 you mention and you can find them used for 1900.00

I have heard good things about the Maven and Athlon and both are good for the price. Especially the Athlon
The mountains are calling and I must go

The Maven is as sharp as the Swaro 65 in daylight and much much better in low light.
