When properly twisted .243 and 6CM very close. Creedmoor still slightly edges it out though and if I'm chopping the barrel to 20" I'm wanting every fps I can get. If you're shooting factory ammo the creedmoor makes even more sense.

My last 6mm barrel was an 8 twist .243 with a 26" barrel. Only lasted about 6 months but was a real shooter. Maybe I need a wolf gun now 🤔 :chuckle:

Data at the muzzle and data at 600 yards and out is not apples to oranges with a .243 with factory twist that doesnt support the long heavy higher bc bullets.  BC is diminishing with velocity and if the twist doesnt support the bullet, bc will decline at a faster rate and lead to the bullet being marginally unstable at a lesser yardage than the same bullet with the correct twist barrel.

Now a .243 with a 7.5-8 twist will do anything the 6mmcm will with the same bullets.  Loading the .243 so that the intersection of the bearing surface of the bullet and the start of the bt taper coincides with the case neck and shoulder junction AND still fits the magazine is an optimized loading for the .243 and performs as such.  I know this because I actually have one set up this way.
My very first .243 was a short barreled 9.1 twist. Basically torched that barrel killing coyotes. Late in its life I started playing with the 105's in it. At about 900 yards it was like someone was standing out there slapping my bullets  :dunno: she needed a few more rpm's for sure  :chuckle:

Now I'm not really much of a 25 caliber guy, but, a 25-284 slinging Berger 133's could/would make for a pretty sweet wolf getter and check all the boxes.  Brass, dies, bullets, easy to get, check.  Relatively light recoil, check.  Can be built on a SA Rem 700, you'll want to use a Wyatt's extended mag box if you do, or Tikka with 270/30-06 bottom metal mags, check.  With the right powder/s a 22in tube could launch those Berger 133's near or at 3100, check check!

:yeah: A 25 saum or prc was my first thought but this would work too!

That’ll do it  8).  I wouldn’t worry so much about the round, more about methodology to get a shot. I’m pretty much in wolves every year I hunt elk. I hear them often but only see their glamor shots on trail cams.

I guess I've never shot a wolf with it or anything but I always imagined carrying the 220 swift if I was targeting one but that's following the "run what your brung"

The idea of getting a new rifle for a potential wolf hunt sounds good too. The swift is my coyote gun.
