Idaho new wolf management plan
« on: February 10, 2023, 08:13:13 AM »
Idaho’s 2023-2028 Draft wolf management plan is out. I don’t know how to post it here. Look it up, interesting read. They have a goal of lowering the population to 500+- by 2028. And keeping it there. Idaho F&G does a good job of managing game, and I don’t want to sound negative, but I don’t think it’s doable.

I don’t think it’s doable either. Funny thing is headlines from media all shout Idaho is going to kill 80 percent of their wolves!!! They have no idea how hard it is to reduce much less eradicate wolves. The antis file lawsuits every time the expand opportunities and methods also. Still I am happy with idfg approach to wolf management. They doing a good job considering the circumstances

Wow I love this state.  Headed to the F4WM banquet in Sandpoint this weekend, doing what we can!

Now, if I could just quit this job and become a full time wolf trapper, we'd really be in business.

500 must be very close to the threshold set for the federal protection limit.  In the wolf trapping class here they estimated the population fluctuates from the 800s to the 1200s depending on seasonality.  Trying to get down to 500 is going to be one heck of a challenge given that they pretty much have open season already.
