Non-hunting dog question

Trying to rent my house. Someone with a Rodesian Ridgeback wants to rent it. It appears to be an African hound dog or something. Does anybody know about them? Will they tear up my carpet, paint, etc?  Thanks.

they're big dogs...but i don't think they have any kind of craziness as long as they are well behaved. any dog will tear it up if they are nutcases.

The ones I've seen are about the size of a well build German Short Hair. I would just keep in mind a terrier can do as much or more damage than any sized dog. It is more about the dog, how he behaves and the standards the owners have for dog behavior in my opinion.

I would have them bring the dog over and just have them let it out. See how it responds to their commands. If it runs around wildly and pays no attention to the owner, it probably won't pay any attention to the property you own either...

A very good point but I am down here in Arizona and I'm hoping our property manager screens for that kinda stuff. I think the main thing in my discretion right now is whether I want to allow the tenant and if we should ask for more in rent. 

Rent is advertised as $1,600, with pets negotiable (and 1 mo damage deposit). I was thinking to add $100-150 to rent and the mgmt company says they usually add an additional $500-600 for a pet deposit.

my first place out here was a 1200 sq ft apartment. they had a 80 pound limit on dogs and a $500.00 damage deposit. the rent didn't cost anymore...just the security deposit. if they are historically renters, they should not be surprised to have to pay up a little to have the dog there.

The dog weighs 50#s per the mgrs email. He said that most pet owners aren't used to the rent being jacked up just for owning a dog, so this is just me being a  grabber.

right...not the rent, just the deposit.
we got used to it. ours was probably 80+lbs.  but they didn't put him on a scale...
