Fewer 'Any Ram' tags
« on: February 15, 2023, 08:25:19 AM »
Looks like they are proposing eliminating the Selah Butte, Umtanum, and Wenaha Any Ram tags.  Sad to see the state of those herds.  I feel even more lucky to have drawn in '21.

Be glad you drew when you did, I sure am.  With draw odds getting worse every year and the state of the new commission I would be surprised if we are still hunting rams in this state in 10 years, maybe 5.  I see bighorn sheep and goats as the first species they will go after eliminating tags for.

I don’t disagree but also predict they will still have an auction tag or two.

They won't drop the last tag, that would cost them a tidy pile of application cash.

As long as I don't drink capacheno or play lotto, I can keep applying until I die.

Just think of how much farther ahead you would be if you didn't run to the wdfw low odds Lottery tag sales. But you are just like many others who will continue to support them.

We are going to need to start a Washington OIL application recovery group. All of us addicted application buyers blowing our money into the wind at ever declining opportunities are going to be suffering from undue mental duress. Keeping us up at night worrying we will never get a tag. Every time we close our eyes all we can see are the words not selected, not selected, not selected. And the way it’s going if we think drawing a OIL tag in Washington is going to be any more realistic than winning the mega millions we probably should be getting our heads checked. Maybe I should start dumping all my Washington application money into mega millions or the blackjack table and see if I can’t just win enough to go hunt out of state or country Odds are probably pretty close to the same, slim to none

Didn't the Yakima Canyon herds get exposed to pneumonia and have an outbreak among them just recently? I asked about the Wenaha tag on another thread just the other day. It was explained that the tag is shared between us, Oregon and the Umatilla tribe (I believe) and rotates around. We are in the off part of the cycle.

There was no reason to cancel the Wenaha hunt.  Typical Washington management

Never understood the juvenile and ewe tags unless they’re over capacity. Now there’s no tags in Umtanum and Selah butte.
I have Man Chit to do

You are totally naive if you think auction and raffle tags revenue will keep these hunts safe.  The goal is to end hunting of all kind
