New to muzzleloading need advice

Looking to get into muzzleloader basically for more opportunities right now I'm looking at traditions pursuit G4. Hoping to pick up some advice from you guys

Get a Knight bighorn, disc extreme or other and search Sabotloader on google and here.  I was new in 2016/17, was recommended a Knight by my boss, sabotloaders posts covered every question I had and was a lifesaver, even though I never talked with him or responded to any posts, loads of info he has written and has others on here.

X2 I’ve talked with Mike many times !! Started with a cva and converted to a strictly knight guy , if you can pony it buy a knight ultra lite and you’ll have the best muzzy

CVA Optima was recommended to me by Muzzleloader.com.  Bought one for me and my wife, and they're great.  Easy to break down and clean in the field, which makes for less misfires.  I converted them for 209 primers, to make them more than dependable.  Got rid of my old clunky Traditions and started piling up deer meat.

No advice on modern guns, rather that you will really enjoy the hunting. I hunted with my plains rifle for 20 years before getting suckered into the archery game. Seasons were great and lack of pressure made for great outings. Much has changed but I'm sure it will still be rewarding.

I'm not sure about that specific model but most of the traditions pursuits dont have an internal barrel coating and they rust really easily. I have a CVA Optima and it comes from the factory with a nitride treatment. Ive had zero oxidation issues but my pursuit had issues all the time.

I sure like my Knight Disc-extreme with the thumbhole stock. I was really focusing on the bolt action and the thumbhole was just dumb luck for me, but it carries nice and shoots great.

I have a disc extreme thumbhole 50 cal with everything you need bullets, powder, primers, etc for 450 just pm me if interested. Also comes with a Vortex 1X scope new in the box if that ever becomes legal. Also has Williams sights on it.

No matter what gun you decide on, make sure you get one of the Williams peep sites to go with it.  The fiber optic one has been a game changer for me.

Yes, peep all the way, I didn't do the globe up front, but you can do that as well!

I thought the thumbhole stock was stupid and looked dumb, was set on a straight stock, got to the store, handled a thumbhole stock and now own 2

Tried the peeps. Hated it in the timber. Took it off and went back to open.

When it comes to misfires I have had exactly 0 in over 25 years while actually hunting. Originally used a Wolverine. Then a Bighorn for the last 15 or so years. Did have 1 misfire target shooting. Operator error. I have done nothing special to protect from weather and hunted for days on end in downpours without reloading. I do swear by RWS #11 caps. And loose powder. At least as good as 209 primers. And I don't bring my rifle into a hot house in the evening when I've been in really cold weather.

I'm so confident that my muzzleloader will work when I want it to that I don't even bring a possibilities bag. I only bring my speed loaders.

My youngest daughter has the wolverine and the other has a bighorn both great as posted above x2 on the #11 and loose never a problem and we never bring them into a warm house either

#1 most important thing about muzzleloaders is keeping your powder dry.
#2 bullet selection. i love the knight bloodline bullets. this things are killer. if i could not buy them, like how idaho and oregon you have to shoot true to boar bullets, i would find something monolithic. weather that be something hardcast lead or solid coper.
#3 keep your primers dry. the 209s are pretty reliable and water resistant. on the range ive pulled them out of puddles and the gun would go off just fine. but you never want to do that in a hunting situation.
#4 go sight the damn thing in on paper. too many guys dont do this and its sad.
#5 have fun.
#6 stay safe.
#7 modern muzzleloaders can handle a lot of pressure..... like alot. you dont want to double load, but in my experience they will shoot just fine. now dont go doing this. Do not put smokeless power in them either. even tho in my experience they will shoot just fine..... but dont do that. accualy forget tip #7 completely.
