Smelt 2023
« on: March 02, 2023, 08:42:00 PM »
Has anyone heard anything. I’d love to get a dip or two in this season. Sure looked like they were in last week gulls were going crazy.

Im guessing they are just waiting for the water temperature to get up to what it needs to be then you'll seen an announcement.

WDFW will probably open the season now that they are gone.  Haven't seen a smelt in a week and a half.  Birds are gone, sea lions are too, for the most part.  Saw a couple yesterday, compared to a couple hundred 3 weeks ago.

They're gone now anyhow.  It would have been great for about a week though.

What do y'all do with them exactly? I tried smoking them while but it was pretty bad. I tried smoking them cleaned and it was still bony as can be. I fed most of them to my dog. :dunno:

I've got 2 limits in the freezer flavored for bait.
