Oregon Coast Charter Recommendations
« on: March 04, 2023, 08:06:52 AM »
Making a week long trip to the Oregon coast in mid June. We will be staying near Yachats/Florence. We would like to go out for at least one day of rockfish/cod with the family. Anybody have any recommendations out of Newport or that area?

I prefer to go out of Depoe Bay, 12 miles north of Newport, for charters.  No river bar to cross.  Safer.  I'm actually planning a June fishing trip out of Depoe Bay this year myself.

Here are some websites for Depoe Bay charters:
https://www.docksidedepoebay.com/
https://www.tradewindscharters.com/
https://www.rockbottomfish.com/

I usually go with Trade Winds.   More options for boats.  Price for bottom fishing near shore is usually ~$100, with an extra $25 to add crab (they drop pots on the way out).  Goes up from there for salmon, deep water bottom, halibut, or tuna excursions.

If going to Newport, if you have crab pots or a crab hawk for your fishing pole, bring it.  The Newport jetty is a great spot for crabbing.  There is a small pier there, but my favorite part is putting my lawn chair on the jetty and casting the crab hawk out as it's a really long jetty.  Rogue Ales is right there at the jetty, so grab some Dead Guy Ale and crab.

Can't comment on Yachats/Florence area charters as when I go further south I just go to Bandon (my favorite coastal town).

Maybe a trek from where you are staying but I did a dory charter out of Pacific Beach a few years ago. It was a pretty fun way to fish. Easy limits of rockfish plus bonus lings and we pulled crab pots on the way in. It is a trip I would do again when I am in that area.
Fish hard, hunt harder!
