I would browse the Tundra forums a bit. I would bet they have a tire size “sticky thread” because the question probably comes up so often.
I know the Nissan Frontier forum does.
And because it does, I just put a new set of BFG AT KO2, 285 70r 17s on today.
Stock size for my SV version is 265 70r 17s.
So far No rubbing.

at risk of highjacking....  how do you like these tires ?   i'm contemplating getting them for my ranger but wondering how they feel on the asphalt ?

Great tire, have had them on several vehicles, good ride, great in snow/dirt, fair in light mud, and quiet! Currently running 37” on my F350. Toyos prior. Night and day difference in ride and sound

I used this website in combination with Discount Tire: https://tiresize.com/calculator/.

It was helpful when I decided to drop down a wheel size with my VW to get a tire with more sidewall to see the size differences all around (of course, a few months after my Bronco finally arrived so it was all for nothing).

I have a 2011 tundra and run bfg ta ko2s, 275/70 r18 on stock tundra 18 rim's.  No lift, no rub.  You should be able to size up 1" with a lift np. But check first.   Discount removed my old wheel/tire and checked fitment and clearance with the larger size before I bought.

I would say keep the size you have. You’re not going to gain anything from running a bigger size. I’m sure you could run the 285s like you want and if there is any rubbing im sure it could be fixed with minor trimming.
