I can tell you all this is lead is going to become a thing of the past.  Non profits like RMEF and NWTF and others are starting to get onboard with non toxic shot. Even manfactures of ammo are talking about it.  I keep hearing rumblings from above that it is coming.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit, Russ.  That's the day I will shoot the same load for Pheasant/Turkey.
There is a lot of turkey hunters I know out there shooting water fowl loads.  I started out using Remington Super Nitro 5 shot with a 12 ga fixed choke 2 3/4".  Progressed on in guns to 3" using super nitro turkey loads, then hevi-shot magnum blend 12 ga.  Then Federal TSS 7&9.  Now my .410 Federal TSS 9's.  Also have some Federal Diamond Turkey loads in 8.  They are copper.  Kill out to 30.  My stand by loads when I can't find any TSS.  With the 5 boxes of Federal TSS I brought back from Nashville I should be good for a couple years again.

i dont think lead shot or powder are even produced in America any longer. EPA/Gvmt has done away with this is one of the early round attempts at 2A. Tungsten comes i think mostly from China, but i may be wrong...

I think what Russ is trying to say.
Is our state is going lead free on all projectile.
Bullets/shot and all that.

And I believe him.
Probably in the next 5 year.
Steel shoot waterfowl loads are pretty cheap and will be the go to for most turkey hunters in the future.

Wow
May be true.
I do know Washington is jumping on the lead free wagon.
Doesn't surprise me though ,nation wide.

I shot 3.5 a few times. I still have a few, but only as a last resort. Guys kill turkeys every year with 2.5 and 3 inch shells. At some point with any game you reach a line. Is it the killing or the hunting you are there for? If rifles were allowed there would be folks hunting turkeys with rifles, but what’s the point in that. I like to turkey hunt to interact with the birds. But maybe that’s why I have never shot one. Call them too close and miss.
One final note, every guy I know that hunted mainly with 300 WM type rifles or shot 3 or 3.5 a lot in latter years ended up with shoulder issues. Something to consider.

I really don't see why 3.5 shells would be compared to rifles.

You can shoot a turkey at 50 yards with a 20 gauge and TSS. What is the difference if you go 10-15 yards further with a 3.5?

It's in fact a harder shot. Pushing out that far takes practice and it shouldn't be done by anyone that is uncomfortable with the kick.

Most turkeys are taken within 40 yards. I like to call in turkeys but I also like taking my 12 gauge.

For those of us that hunt public and live hours away a turkey at 60 yards could be the only one we see.

I've also hunted with a bow and it is much harder than using a 410. But that doesn't mean I view a smaller gauge as less sporting. Most of the time is spent finding the turkey in any case.

I really hope not. California hunters can't even get enough ammo as it is.

Of course the anti-hunting crowd sees this as a win.

FOUND THEM!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks to a huntwa member.
These Grand Slams are the turkey gold.
Also got a box of remington with the extra hard shot.
Whatever that is,Remington trying to compete with the grandslams.
Being that grandslams have that Copper plated shot.
Remingtons was about 10 bucks cheaper though.

And scored a couple of boxes 22mag for grouse season.

Thanks again to the member that gave me the location tip.
PM headed his way, expressing my thanks.
And I only bought what you see,and left the rest for other turkey hunters in need.

Did buy my licences the other day .
No turkey for me,unless I change my mind last second.
Just take the kid,do some calling for him.
If a cougar or a coyote comes in to his calling setup ,I'll be ready though.

I just run a 2 3/4” hand load of 1 1/4oz #6 at 1380ish.  Used to run 3” Winchester XR but found I didn’t gain anything.  90% of my birds drop at 25-35 yards.
