Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Sad that the only levers left are not affordable for the common working man anymore.
I grew up in upstate NY and every body had a Winchester or Marlin with a few Savages thrown in.

First rifle was a marlin 336 in 30-30, brand new and given to me by my grandfather as a hunters safety graduation gift in 1997. 5 years later I switched to a Remington 721 in .270 because all the hunting magazines said I’ve gotta have a “flat shooting rifle.”
2 years ago switched to a Bergara .300 win mag because I told myself I need to be able to “reach out there a little further.”
To this day every big game animal I’ve harvested could’ve easily been killed with that marlin .30-30

Rossi makes lever guns. My brother and I got one for our father in a pistol cartridge. it was reasonably priced and a lot of fun to shoot.

So when I posted this I couldnt find any new ones.  I have seen the ones pop up in the classified here after my post. I LOVE Hennery Goldenboys. I do really like the magazine fed offerings for a better variety of standard hunting cartridges.

Cause everyone that owns one refuses to sell them. Like my second rifle down. I haven’t ever found a real # of how much real Marlin 1895SBL’s are worth. If anyone knows I would like to know. You can rapid fire an entire tube+1 and cover it with a Mountain Dew can.

These are my Lever Actions. The first is a Henry .22 I bought when I was 12, with the money I earned from walking bean fields and pastures cutting down thistles & cedars plus selling crawdads to bait stores and southern neighbors (grew up in Nebraska). The second is a TRUE MARLIN 1895SBL in 45-70. I ordered that while I was stationed in Korea when I found out I had orders to Alaska. Regret not buying the 338 Marlin express sitting next to it for 650$, to this day I’m still kicking myself. Final one is a 1951 Marlin 336SC “Waffle-Top” in 35rem. I bought it when I moved here, when I was medically retired from the military. I got lucky with the last one only paid 350$ w/ 2 boxes of ammo. Plus who doesn’t love the “Perch-Bellies”? I want one in 30-30 and 32 special. Love my levers and god if I could only own one type of rifle it would be a lever. They are quick shooting, quick pointing and can pack some serious punch.

There are a couple rifles I still want and that’s a 454 Rossi, Winchester 71, Winchester 1886, Marlin 338 Express, Winchester 94AE 444, and any pistol carbines.

Old photo of some lever guns from the past.
No skin showing. No dirty dancing. No cute catch phrases. They were dope ... when dopamine wasn't cool.

My first 4 deer seasons I carried an old 30/30 Win 94 that was my grandfather's. I also carried a .32 special one season. I have some good memories of hunting with those guns.

I know of a few guys with massive collections of lever actions, its no wonder why old levers are hard to find.

That's how I've always been.  I know I'm probably never gonna deer hunt with one again, but I've stubbornly refused to sell them.  Might use them for a hound-cougar hunt one day or something... Maybe one day I'll figure out how to do the horse-thing and I'll need a saddle gun...  :dunno:

Surprised to not see much savage 99 love here. I have a .250-3000 and a .358.  The .358 was originally a .300 and I would’ve kept it that way(since mine was a relatively uncommon post-mil 99F .300) but it had a badly pitted bore and had been replied so I had it punched out.

Nearly picked up a .284 recently but it had a bad tang crack. Besides, these days it could be a couple years before I could find any brass for it.

I had a marlin 1895 that I bought new but it was an early “remlin” with a lot of the issues those were known for (rough action and crappy finish). It would jam when cycling with a full magazine so down the road it went. If I would’ve hung on to it for a couple more years I could have turned a real profit…I think it cost me about $600 at cabelas in 2014.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun
