Only 2 months to go, couple questions
«
on:
June 02, 2009, 09:46:01 PM »
We have 2 months to go for the opener, is it to early to scout now or do they move to much to do it so early?
Are the harvest reports out from last season?
I really want one this year, not a little one either so I'm willing to spend alot of time in the woods
Any helpful hints would be great also

Never to early to scout, you can always look for good area. You know what it takes to find a good animal, look for that kind of area and they will be there. I start really looking for animals in those areas around the end of this month, once they are in them I find they stay in them for a while. I find about the first week of Sept in my area is when they leave there summer pattern.

Never a bad idea to get good spots to hunt, good vantage points etc. One thing to remember is alot of people want rugs out of the bears they get, well august is at about the worst time to kill a bear for a rug, older the bear the thinner they will be in august.

It is never too late to scout, but it is too early to pattern for August. Try to find them now and stay on top of them (follow the food) until August. If you want a rug you will want to wait until late September at the earliest, October would be better.

Ears are the best way, ears appear to be on the side of the head, its a good bear, ears appear to be big or close together, young bear. Big boars will become pigeon toed and have a side to side walk.

Yep pretty early to shoot a bear. If you are looking for meat have at it. If ya want a rug wait. I've seen a few Aug. bear rugs and they don't look that great. Let that hair fill in. A late fall bear has an awesome coat.
