HuntWA 2009 Bear Hunting Poll
« on: May 30, 2009, 02:34:34 PM »
Ok guys. It is that time again. I know it is a bit early for 2009 but there are a lot of bears hitting the ground already.

I am curious how many Washington bears have been taken in 2009 by members and how many are first time bear hunters.

You will be allowed to vote up to 5 times if needed.
For example:
A vote for killing a bear/or two bears yourself.
A vote if it was your first bear ever.
A vote if it/or one was a spring bear
A vote if your friend (non site member) killed a bear
A vote if a friend/or another friend (non site member) killed two bears.

You may change your vote if you need to.

Please, no photos in this thread.

one was a spring bear

I will update in August for the second tag...more likely last week of Sept, as that seems to be my golden week for bearskies the last few years.

Did hunt bears in 2009 but not successful

How can anyone vote for this option now, with 3 months of bear season left?

Just curious, as there is one vote for that option already. I suppose if you hunted the spring season and for some reason will be out of the state during the entire summer/fall bear season...

Mostly it was my son hunting them last fall, but he's 10, so I was with him all the time.  No luck for us.

This poll is for the year 2009 and Washington only.
The 2008 poll ran until the end of January.

Pathfinder101 & WDFW-SUX: The only reason to select "Not successful in 2009" is if you are only hunting spring. Remember you still have the fall season.

Remember, if you made a mistake or kill one later you can edit your vote.

I also added an option for unsuccessful spring hunters.

Actually 4 months left in some cases. Two more weeks of spring bear and 3.5 months in the fall.

Sorry, my bad.  If the administrator can delete my entry, go ahead.  I thought we were talking about the 2008/2009 season.

I did not kill a bear this year or any year for that matter. I usually don't target them specifically. Normally I carry my gun while scouting deer/ elk, and look for them during hunting season. I really want to get one now, so I'll be hunting them more seriously during the 2010 season. I may even give Dale and Tara a call over in Coleville!
I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not!

I got 4 bears with my bow, and filmed them all myself. Filmed a lot more than I shot...kinda hard to do it all yourself. Ok, so you noticed I said 4. I got 2 and filled my state tags, and got fired up. I called a buddy who guides on the QIN and he let me come out there... Voila, 2 more! All we shot from 8-23 yds.

Didn't find the one I wanted.  Turned down some good eats, but not what I was looking for.

I remember hearing about it before you even got back to post about it but I couldn't remember seeing a pic.

And anything said during the seasons should not be held against a hunter!

I can't complain too much. My bear made P&Y (18 1/16"). In fact, I was told to have a second measurer score it. He is about 7' and was over 400 lbs.

Saw one cub about 2 months before season started (and it was an accident, caught him next to the road).  Anyone want to help a idiot kill his first bear??????   :dunno: :dunno:
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

2010 Is going to be a good year for Bears. I'm hearing of them being out and about on and off all winter this year. (no, they don't hybernate, just sleep for extended periods.) But with no real weather so far, there's food that's easier to get, (little critters and grasses), (yes, grasses are growing. I mowed my frigging back yard a week ago)

I didn't answer the poll.. Did I hunt Bears? Kinda/sorta. If you call keeping an eye out for Bears while I was Deer hunting, (hiking with weapons), or the two trips I made into a couple of my potential Bear producing spots actually hunting for Bear then I guess I did. Tag soup.

Pretty tough to screw up measuring a bear skull....front to back and side to side, not alot to confuse.

To be 2.5 inches off, I'd say that someone measured it with meat still on the skull, and someone measured it with meat off the skull.
