1st scouting trip of the season.
« on: May 30, 2009, 08:26:44 PM »
went to one of my secret spots last evening hoping to see some elk, but not expecting too due to snow (so I didn't take a camera  :bash:)  Anyway got up there and the first thing I saw was a huge chocolate colored bear that I had seen last elk season.  He was feeding on a hillside not 50 yards from two nice bulls!  Neither the bulls or the bear cared that the other was so close.  In fact after about an hour, the bear just layed down right there on the hill and went to sleep.  Anyway, we ended up seeing 8 bulls, about 20 cows, 4 bucks, and about 12 does.  Guess from now on, I'll be packing the spotter, tripod and camera.....elk season is already looking good, the antler growth I've seen already is nothing short of amazing for this early.

You sound like me, I take the camera, never see an animal.  I forget the camera at the house, and the animals are line dancing in front of me all day long.   :bash:
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

Sounds like a good start Norse.  There should be plenty of grass like last year due to all the snow.  Only bad part I saw was that it spread the elk out more since they didn't have to travel as far for food, but they should be is good shape.  Hope the antler growth keeps up.  JoeVon and I really want to get over there for a trail ride or to do some fishing once the snows gone.  Get that camera out so we can see some pics!

I had the opposite. I went to set out my trail cam and could not get to the place i wanted because of snow and down trees. I was on my motorcycle, so no saw to cut the tree, but my truck would bot have maed it as far.
I was only about a quarter mile from the spot but did not wan to leave my bike unattended for so long  :bash:

O'well, maybe i will bring the jeep and saw next trip to clear the road.

Yea a person can't afford to go out without taking along a camera now. Might miss that Kodak moment!!
The only man who never makes a mistake, is the man who never does anything!!
The further one goes into the wilderness, the greater the attraction of its lonely freedom.
