Walleye
« on: April 04, 2023, 09:00:12 PM »
Hoping to get the boys out for some Columbia river eyes this weekend. Anyone having luck down through Irrigon? Haven’t been out yet this year down that direction. Hoping to have a sweet end to spring break for them.

Thanks!

I’ve no idea how harness guys are doing. Spawn is right now. You could hit the heck outta 62 and probably get some. You could follow the guides to 90’ and get some 13 inchers but I think they’re at Boardman. Shoot me a PM

They still have a limit for Walleye on the Columbia  :dunno:
I thought they were considered an invasive species on the river, yet they still have a limit?
Only 2 defining forces sacrificed themselves for you:

He trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle.

There's no limit on any warm water species in the Columbia. Walleye, bass, catfish, bluegill perch etc. All fair game and introduced non-natives.

If you want to target bigger fish, go shallow like 20' on the ledge next to spawning habitat. I picked some up on black and gold harnesses last weekend.

Got several in just a few hours. All milking males. Not a single female.

Caught 4 on Saturday afternoon during that nice weather all on harnesses.  All over 24" with the biggest 29" and 7#7oz. Out of the 4, 3 of them were hens full of delicious eggs. Just off the eggs alone I fed a family of 5 and still had leftovers for the dogs. The eggs are probably my favorite part and are only available for a short while.

Around 1 mph yeah. Black and gold had the most hits, but chartreuse and orange caught the bigger fish. Slow death / smile blades.

Not the kind of "*censored*ing" i was talking about.
Definitely not joking. You pull them out of the skein and rinse them. Mix them with chicken eggs, flour and bacon bits and fry it in a pan like a fritter. They're delicious with butter and maple syrup. There isn't a hint of fishy smell or taste once they're cooked up.  Where I was fishing the temp was still low around 46deg so the spawn is later than McNary.

I assume he is talking about killing the spawning size females.  I don’t see anything wrong with eating delicious invasive species!

Dang right! We introduced them to the river, the least we can do is eat them.
