My Turkey season has been delayed twice!
« on: April 04, 2023, 10:43:52 PM »
Not a super important post, but I don’t have anyone else who gets it so I’m ranting here.

Had my son geared up for youth Turkey and he broke his wrist (Ortho follow-up Friday).

Wife just informed me that I’ve got kid duty the weekend of the 4/15 opener.

I don’t ask for much, just season openers a few times a year.

Here’s to hoping I can get the kiddo out on 4/22 and maybe we can bag some birds together!

Might have been a windfall for you. Reports are still kinda cold in the NE. Later might be better.

Im hoping so. It’ll give me more time to e-scout some areas too. I’m blindly feeling around (from Arizona). Might be able to take more time off work to go too, we’re Westside so probably going to drive toward Colville.

Lol I hear you man, we were all set for youth opener and was watching the weather closely.  A long 6 hr drive for us to go so I pulled the plug and cancelled opening youth hunt.  Bright side we didn't get rained out and he played really well in his little league game.  Was supposed to go April 15th opener and now those plans have change and we cannot go.  Son is super bummed.   But finally our luck may change and we are able to hunt private land on mothers day weekend. Now we have to break the news to his mom.  Im hoping she understands since she knows how much we love this.

To the pasture maggot assassins weather update.
This morning it is a balmy 22 degrees at the back porch. When the dawg went out to conduct " business" and the motion light came on the back fence line exploded. But that what it was last nite as well.

Not sure where your hunting but up here in Southern Steven's County (GMU 117) the Tom'sand Jake's are still all bundled up together. And they are pretty quiet still.
Be more concerned with your character than your reputation. Your character is who you actually are while your reputation is merely who others think you are.

I'm hoping I can make it to my property at 3200' by the 15th.  I've always made it between April 4th and 8th, except for 2020 when my truck was in the shop for a month.

It will depend what the weather does in the next 10 days, right now it's doubtful, I would check with KFH or Ridgeratt before leaving.

You can kill birds the entire season, we do it every year, all season long. The last week of May gets tough because a lot of toms quit gobbling but you can still find some birds even that week. You will be fine.

kind of depends where your property is. Snow is kinda spotty with some areas still pretty snowy and a couple miles away it's gone Sherman pass still has 5' of snow but it's about 5500'  most of the back roads are still very sloppy  but that's not unusual for the first week of the opener.   Birds around me are still bunched up, but I've noticed the toms and Jake's are now mixed in
