OP Steelhead close to ESA list
« on: April 07, 2023, 06:08:36 AM »
Still some time to comment and voice your opinion on this. Spending alot of time in this area I can say hands down in my 8 years in Washington this was one of the best winter steelhead season I've seen for the systems that were open.  Even with the no fishing from a floating devise rule on some rivers fishing was fantastic.

Quick Google search can connect you links for comment.

Olympic Peninsula steelhead meets federal criteria for consideration of protection under the ESA.
NMFS released their 90 day finding on a petition to list OP steelhead under ESA. They concluded that the petition presents substantial information indicating a listing may be warranted.

Good luck!!

My years of dealing with NMFS came to one conclusion, THEY can't be trusted.  They came at us as "egregious people" before they even knew us.   They are agenda driven, not by science or FACT driven.  They destroyed Eco-systems at leisure and were happy they did.  Just so they could get the Salmon listed.  Then they left and others came in and spent millions of taxpayers dollars and created "jobs" for government agency's. :bash: :bash:
The only good tree, is a stump!

This is sad... to me, just another nail in the coffin like spring bear. At the same time, its been years since I have fished the peninsula, so I really don't know what is going on... but when I hit it hard 25 years ago... it was pretty good.

Wish I could have seen it 25 years ago. I do know over the last few years we have had fantastic fishing, with some of the giants still around.
