2023 What Should you Do? Episode #1.
« on: April 16, 2023, 01:23:48 PM »
unt: Solo archery hunt. Tag: Any bull.

Date/Time:  10 September; 0830.  Day 5 of your 7-day hunt.

Situation:  Started at daylight, heading up and in to your secret squirrel spot at the head end of a small basin.  You’ve let this bull call you in with his bugles/chuckles.  You’ve only responded with a few whiny cow calls as you cover the distance.  Thermals are still coming down nicely.  When you’re about 80 yards away/below the bull, you see a hunter (you have no idea who he is or where he came from) in cover around 40 yards below the bull and at about your 2 o’clock.  As you both lock eyes on each other, the visiting hunter gives you hand signal to call.  It seems new guy is telling you to call so perhaps he can get a shot.

What should or do you do at this point?

I would try my best to call the bull in for the SOB  :chuckle: and roll on with some good Karma on my side!

He's there first.

Do my best to call it in for him.

Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

I'm giving him the thumbs up and letting out a bugle to call the bull in for him. If the bull circles or comes to the call with no shot for him I'm shooting.

Same. Call, hope one of us gets an opportunity. If he kills, I'll take the karma.

Is the other hunter wearing either a “Muley Freak” or “Elk Shape” hat? Because either one of those might change my decision haha

I don't hunt 20 miles from trailhead, so likely won't run into those guys.

I would help him since he clearly asked for it.

You gotta add Hushin to that list though.
