Bulls on Boards
« on: April 23, 2023, 11:51:47 AM »
Becoming more popular every year! Great option for those wanting a unique elk mount to include the head and hide, but without the size restrictions of a shoulder mount, not to mention they are less expensive. In the chance a cape was cut improperly or too short (which happens far too often with elk capes) this option exists to show off an elk trophy. Thank you to these two huntresses of these Washington State bulls for the work and congrats on your success!

nice work.  Its how I am going to mount my biggest buck.   I have two authentic woodframe packboards from my Grandpa and Dad.  I just need to find a nice Muley hide.

Have you ever done one mounted antlers down?
I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies

In November U.S. manufacturing contracted for the the ninth consecutive month. Layoffs across the economy are higher than anytime since the pandemic in 2020 and I just read that the Midwest farmers will be receiving a 12B bailout due to 50 year trade relationships being destroyed. I have to admit that I was a sceptic and didn't believe in the effectiveness in tariffs but I'm a believer now.

I sold my two old Trapper Nelson pack frames to guys that did this with muleys about 10 years ago. Turned out great. I'll see if I can dig up a pic of them.

Never seen it with elk before, but I dig it

Found the pick of the muley on my old pack.

I like them lashed onto the frame with the hides rolled up behind, looks more like it would on the actual packout.

When you get one (hide) save the full thing including the tail. They (packboard mounts) look really cool with the tail integrated into the set, like the pic included of a one I finished up not long ago.

Yep, a few. I usually give the client the option for 'head up' or 'head down'. Head up is more popular but the head/antlers down looks more natural and impressive on bigger bulls.
